We’re getting to the 2024 Porsche Macan: here’s what we know about the German brand’s first electric SUV

He Porsche Macan 2024 It is one of the most anticipated SUVs of next year. It will bring with it many innovations, but the most striking will be the electric drive it will use, which will mark a before and after in the history of this model. There are still many details that are unknown, but we’ve jumped on it and here’s what we know.

In the complex Porsche is located in the German city of Leipzig, we were able to learn more about it brand new SUV. This is where it will be in production when it hits the roads in 2024, and where some tests are taking place with several camouflaged prototypes.

Regarding these aggregates, there are still design details that will be revealed only when the final model of the company is presented, but in some elements a style similar to the current generation can be seen. Of course, there are more angular headlights, thinner rear lights and a coupe silhouette.

Plus the silhouette of this new one Porsche Macan presents characteristics that allow it to be identified as a electric car, as its ground clearance. Of course, it is still recognizable as a model from the Stuttgart firm, and this becomes even more apparent when you approach it.

Like other recent launches from the company, Macan 2024 interior It will have a 12.6-inch curved digital instrument cluster, as well as a 10.9-inch central screen and an optional passenger screen of the same size. The layout of the cabin will also be similar to other cars from the company, but there will be a few new features.

An important innovation – even if it will be optional – will be, for example, the introduction of a head-up display with augmented reality, which will provide additional information about GPS routes and when using adaptive cruise control with an indication of the distance from the car that is driving ahead of us.

Along with this feature, another advancement that the German electric SUV will bring will be a new version of the “Hey Porsche” voice assistant, available with six new languages and improved controls. In fact, it even helps you find parking spots and charging points.

Anyway, The infotainment system itself has also been improved, with a new generation of PCM that will expand the range of applications and increase speed. Likewise, it will also have improvements in features such as navigation, which can include stops to charge the battery on long journeys in a matter of seconds.

Finally, one last noteworthy detail Porsche Macan 2024 Inside, it will be related to the atmosphere on board, as it will include a communication light composed of 56 LED lights that will occupy the dashboard and front door panels. It will serve as ambient light, but also as a charge meter, blind spot sensor, voice assistant representation…

OOP platform, key

As already mentioned, the key to the new Macan is in OOP platform which Porsche developed together with Audi. In the case of the four-ring firm, it’s the base that the Q6 e-tron also uses, as well battery with a capacity of approx. 100 kWh. The difference between the two SUVs will of course be in the engines.

In the SUV of the Stuttgart company, Both the entry-level version and the top of the range will have two engines. The front engine in both will be 210 mm in diameter and 100 mm in length, but the 210 mm in diameter and 200 mm in length engine will be located on the rear axle of the base model. Meanwhile, the top of the range will use one with a diameter of 230mm and a length of 210mm.

These two versions will be the ones to hit the market initially, both with four-wheel drive, but with a slightly rearward weight balance. In addition, the maximum output will be about 450 kW (612 hp) and more than 1,000 Nm of torque. All this will be combined with a directional rear axle and suspension that can be optionally air, including PASM.

All of this will help the driving experience and also stand out while driving. energy recovery, up to 240 kW according to Porsche. This way you can take advantage of the benefits more than 500 kilometers of autonomy of the electric Porsche Macan, which the manufacturer announces regardless of the version.

This will undoubtedly be relevant information for this model, as well as battery charging, which can be up to 270 kW thanks to the 800-volt technology of this SUV. That is, time 22 minutes to go from 10 to 80% capacity in fast charging, although there will be an 11 kW AC charger on board.

How does it move?

In addition to knowing some of the details of this new electric SUV, we have the option test drive the 2024 Porsche Macan, albeit from the co-pilot’s seat. The Leipzig site has a circuit that recreates turns from the most famous circuits in the world, as well as an off-road area. We start with this last one.

I get into the passenger seat and find the interior full of cables in the back seats and fabrics that make it impossible to see many details from the outside. It is clear that this is a prototype still under development and the driving will therefore be handled by a professional driver. After selecting the Off-Road driving mode, the body rises and we start.

This is not a country car. This has never been the case, but this test shows that it is possible to the right degree. We started driving along dirt roads full of stones at a good speed The suspension works in such a way that we don’t feel too many bounces on board. This way we get to a number of slopes of different inclinations.

Of course, this electric version of the Porsche Macan It copes with no problems even on an 80% slope, where we stop completely in the middle of the climb. As we continue to drive, we move effortlessly and without the car seeming to lose a bit of traction.

We also go through with it 35% side slopes with complete calmness, but the most striking moment is when we wade through the pond. Again, something no Macan is likely to encounter in their lifetime, but it’s still eye-catching.

All this is surprising off the tarmac, but how does it behave on it? To verify this, we go to the circuit I already mentioned and pit road, the pilot activates the Sport Plus driving mode and Launch Control.

We take off at full throttle, both of us clinging to our seats as I hear what sounds like a simulated heat engine sound bridging the gap. This is supposed to provide more driving excitement, but the immediate response already makes it a boring experience at all.

In this way, we reach the first corner and with the selected driving mode, more power is sent to the rear axle. For this reason, we’re leaving soonbut it is a smooth and controlled skid, without the need to make corrections.

This is how we approach the other corners of the section of the German circuit we are on, allowing us to drive replicas of corners such as the “carousel” at the Nürburgring and the “Parabolic” at Monza. We even went through the ‘corkscrew’ of Laguna Seca, although we were going almost straight and at full throttle…

For the screeching of the tires, even when I’m not in the driver’s seat, I notice after a while that It is not a light car, but it has no problems in corners either.. Additionally, I notice how the front axle seems to lose traction at times, but a quick weight shift puts everything back into place.

Of course, you have to take into account that this is not a 100% identical car to what will hit the road, but what I can see is promising. This is the case in the winding areas, while on the main straight we use the power of 612 HP and we easily exceed 200 km/h.

I complete another lap of the circuit, this one a short one first contact with Porsche Macan 2024 It’s nearing the end, but I’m pretty happy with what I’ve been able to experience so far. Nevertheless, we will see it on the roads next year, and then we will be able to see it with our own eyes: from the driver’s seat.
