Jeep’s gasoline model is coming: Its price is falling in Europe and rising in Turkey

First marketed as electric only Jeep Avenger The compact SUV is now also available in a pure petrol version. A gasoline mild hybrid version will arrive in 2024.

The petrol version of the new Jeep Avenger is on sale in the UK. It was seen that the price started from 27 thousand 600 pounds. The SUV from Jeep is 8 thousand pounds or 292 thousand TL cheaper than the most basic all-electric version.

The pure petrol Avenger, with the 1.2-litre PureTech turbocharged three-cylinder engine also found in other Stellantis models such as the Peugeot 2008 and Vauxhall Mokka, goes on sale in the UK this year. The three-cylinder engine produces 100 horsepower and 205 Nm of torque. It was also announced that the model will only be available with a 6-speed manual transmission.

This first series pure petrol Avenger will only be offered in Altitude+ trim, featuring 18-inch wheels, heated seats, navigation, an eight-speaker JBL sound system, a wireless smartphone charging pad, hands-free power liftgate and blind spot monitoring. In addition, there is a 10.25-inch digital driver display and a 10.25-inch central touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wireless connectivity.

However, it is suspected that the limited edition Avenger Altitude+ will be the only pure petrol vehicle that the American brand will offer to rival the Ford Puma and Renault Captur. Next year, the mild hybrid Avenger e-Hybrid will be added to the series, which will be introduced in the spring of 2024.

The Avenger e-Hybrid combines the 1.2-liter PureTech engine of the gasoline model with a 28-horsepower electric motor and a six-speed automatic transmission. The electric motor is integrated directly into the transmission and is powered by a small lithium-ion battery. Since it’s only a mild hybrid, the motor and regenerative braking system take care of recharging the battery without you having to plug it in anywhere.

Jeep has confirmed that the Avenger e-Hybrid will be available in the same Longitude, Altitude and Summit trim levels as the original all-electric version, but pricing has not yet been announced.

The new Avenger is Jeep’s first all-electric vehicle and will go on sale in early 2023. Positioned as the first of four powerful new Jeep electric vehicles, including the luxury-focused Wagoneer S and the rugged Recon model. Avenger EV, Hyundai Kona Electric AND Kia Niro EV as well as the small SUV of the parent company Stellantis such as Peugeot E-2008 AND Opel Mokka Electric competes with its models.

The first Avenger 1st Edition started at £36,500 with a two-tone black roof, tinted windows and 18-inch alloy wheels. Now the starting price in the UK is 35 thousand 700 pounds. When comparing prices, the petrol model will be offered for sale 22.69 percent more affordable than the electric model.

The electric Avenger features the latest version of the Stellantis electric powertrain, which is used by the facelifted Peugeot E-2008 and Vauxhall Corsa Electric. The battery capacity is 54 kWh (51 kWh usable) and consists of 10 cell modules in the rear of the vehicle, under the rear seats, and seven modules under the front seats.

For now, the Avenger is front-wheel drive only, and the all-electric model uses a single motor that produces 154 horsepower and 260 Nm of torque. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 9 seconds and has a top speed of 150 km/h. Jeep has reported that the 1,541 kg Avenger has a range of 408 km in the WLTP test cycle.

Every Avenger is equipped with Jeep’s SelecTerrain and Hill Descent Control systems, and these systems provide a fair amount of off-road capability compared to its sister vehicles. The SelecTerrain comes with six driving modes. They are Normal, Eco, Sport, Snow, Mud and Sand.

However, the four-wheel drive version called 4Xe will be a better choice to break away from the mundane. Jeep has not yet confirmed what will power the 4Xe version, but with its concept called the Avenger 4×4 Concept, it gave a glimpse of what this version could look like. The concept not only has a wider track and larger wheel arches to accommodate off-road tires, but also improved approach and departure angles. It is not known how much of the concept’s off-road capabilities will be offered in the production car, but the car is expected to go on sale in 2024.

Combustion-powered Avengers will feature a redesigned grille and single-exit exhaust, but will be identical to the EVs except for the absence of Jeep’s “e” badging.

There is up to 34 liters of storage space in the cabin, while the luggage space is 380 liters.

Electric Jeep Avenger Electric is offered for sale in Turkey with Summit hardware version for 1 million 593 thousand 750 TL. In the UK, the electric model starts from £35,700 or £1,303,000 and the petrol model from £27,600 or £1,700,000. However, due to taxes in Turkey, the petrol model is not expected to be more affordable than the electric model.

While the electric Avenger with 10 per cent SCT and 20 per cent VAT will attract 32 per cent tax, the petrol model with 80 per cent SCT and 20 per cent VAT will attract 116 per cent tax. So if a gasoline and manual model is offered for sale in Turkey, it will be more expensive than the electric model.
