Electric car for 100 euros per month: everything you need to know about this new device

Last September, Emmanuel Macron announced the establishment of “social leasing”, which aims to allow the most modest households and workers to buy an electric car for 100 euros a month. The French president confirmed the implementation of the system and the launch of the “my electric leasing” platform dedicated to this purpose on December 14.

For herself, Bruno Le Maire, Minister of Economy, Finance and Industrial and Digital Sovereignty, Christophe Béchu, Minister of Ecological Transformation and Territorial Cohesion, Agnès Pannier-Runacher, Minister of Energy Transformation, and Clément Beaune, Commissioner for Transport, announced the publication of the decree which introduces electric car leasing system from January 1, 2024, with the fact that pre-registration at rental companies is possible from the end of this year.

Who will this system affect?

This new system, requested by the French President, is reserved for the lowest 50% of households with a reference income of less than or equal to 15,400 euros per year. Between 4 and 5 million people are affected. This system will be dedicated to workers who drive more than 8,000 km per year, as well as residents who live more than 15 km from their workplace.

Web page was introduced to verify his eligibility. If two adults from the same household meet the eligibility criteria, both will be able to use this new system. Please note that even if income changes during the lease, the recipient will keep their vehicle for the duration of the lease, which can be terminated at any time.

Energy Transformation Minister Agnès Pannier-Runacher said the two categories of beneficiaries are ” unexceptionable “. It is ” Those for whom the vehicle is a work tool, I mean, for example, liberal nurses (…) and those who do not have the means to switch to a clean vehicle because it is too expensive to walk today. “, she specified.

What vehicles will be available and how much will they cost?

Beneficiaries of this system will therefore pay 100 euros per month until the full amount of the vehicle is paid. As for the initial monthly payment, the government plans to double the bonus, allowing beneficiaries to pay an initial payment of only 100 euros. However, this will depend on the vehicle model. The smallest will be offered with a monthly payment of less than 100 euros. On the other hand, larger sedan models will be offered for more than 100 euros per month, without insurance.

Several models affected by this system have already been announced. These include the Peugeot e-208 and e-2008, the Renault Twingo and the Fiat 500e. However, manufacturers will gradually refine their offers intended for social leasing. We remind you that the European Union plans to definitively ban the use of vehicles with a heat engine by 2035 in favor of electric cars.
